Ask your legislators to FUND MEALS FOR SENIORS

April 11, 2023 by Southeastern Minnesota Area Agency on Aging

Ask your legislators to FUND MEALS FOR SENIORS
The health and well-being of older Minnesotans depends upon it.

Call your legislators and advocate for S.F. 2244 (Chief Author Senator Erin Maye Quade – DFL-Apple Valley) and H.F. 2523 (Chief Author Representative Peter Fischer). See Latest Updates for all authors and committee information.

Meals for older adults are seriously underfunded in Minnesota, and, as a result, the health of older Minnesotans is at risk.

Reduce hunger for seniors!

Our message to legislators: We implore you to add $20 million ($10 million per year) to the Minnesota Board on Aging appropriation, amending Minnesota Statutes, section 256.9752, to meet minimum nutritional needs for older adults. Download our Call to Action.

Food insecurity disproportionately affects older Minnesotans from lower-income and rural communities who often live in food deserts, have limited English proficiency or lack access to transportation. Inadequate nutrition impacts health, erodes quality of life, and increases healthcare costs.
